At St. James, we are focused on providing opportunities for students to explore talents and interests that will help them grow into well-rounded members of their communities. The following extracurricular activities are offered to our students:
Athletics:
St. James sponsors competitive and developmental programs that start as early as 1st grade, depending on the sport. We currently offer cross country, soccer, girls volleyball, girls basketball, boys basketball, cheerleading, and track. To learn more, visit our Athletics page.
Altar Servers:
Students in grades 4-8 have the opportunity to serve at school Masses as altar servers.
Children's Choir:
Students in grades 2-8 are welcome to participate in the Divine Redeemer Children's Choir.
First Lego League (FLL):
Tomorrow's innovators practice imaginative thinking and teamwork. Guided by coaches, FLL teams research a real-world problem and are challenged to develop a solution by designing, building, and programming a robot using Lego Mindstorms. Teams are comprised of up to 10 members in grades 4-8.
Forensics:
Offered to grades 5-8, this activity offers students the opportunity to build and improve their public speaking skills. Members compete in a number of forensics competitions throughout the diocese.
Musical:
Students in grades 6-8 are invited to audition for the annual Spring musical. Students are also welcome to participate by becoming a part of the stage crew.
Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science:
To promote an interest in science, students in grades 7-8 are invited to prepare projects that they present at the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS) competition.
Reading & The Rosary Book Club:
Split into a group for boys and a group for girls, students in grades 7 & 8 meet once a month to pray the rosary and discuss books. The club sponsors numerous school-wide service intiatives and assists Divine Redeemer Parish in service projects throughout the year.
Student Government:
Students in grades 7 and 8 are welcome to join student government. Officers must be in 8th grade. Students vote upon, plan, and organize a wide range of activities, charity drives, and other initaitives around the school. Meetings are held throughout the year.
