St. James School Aftercare Program 2010-2011

We have created activities that provide a balance of social and academic skills for students attending the Aftercare Program. Below is a description of activities that are available for student participation. If your child/children are interested in any of the following, please fill out the form and send it in along with your completed program registration form. We look forward to an exciting new school year!
Mrs. Jamis & Mrs. Vular

For the artist….Artists Café

Students will draw from life, learn how to use acrylic paints, watercolors, and pastels. They will experience printmaking techniques and will learn a bit about art history while having fun creating mini works of art.

Tues. Sept-Nov.

 

For the game player…. Boardem Busters

Students will play scrabble, bananagram, checkers, & chess.  These games will be played individually as well as in teams.  Students will learn how to play strategically and improve vocabulary skills.  We will have lists of words available for our younger students who are beginners.  Students will participate in practice rounds before the double elimination rounds. This will be offered two times during the year. 

Wed. Sept-Oct. session 1 & Thur. April-May session 2

 

For the adventurer….World Traveler

One of a kind travel postcards will be created each week as students journey around the world.  We will be using a variety of mediums, such as; colored pencil, acrylic paints, collage, watercolors & ink to illustrate our travels.  At the end of their tour, students will put their postcards together to form a book of travels, adding a cover and back.

For the actor…Theater Arts Games

If you like acting, this is the class for you.  Challenges and games will be played to help improve your acting skills.

For the author…Storytellers

Students will listen to stories and poetry….write their own stories/poems….use puppets to tell their stories.  If you love to read, write, and create, you will enjoy this class. Small group work. Tue. Feb.-May.

 

For the musician & dancer…Music & Movement

Students will listen to different genres of music, adding movements and using boomwackers to make music!

For the competitor…Friday Madness

Students will participate in games and team building challenges!

Fri. Sept-May

 

Yoga Kids

Students will have the opportunity to stretch and enjoy some quiet time while learning yoga poses geared for children and listen to music. 30 minutes Fri.

 

Top Chef

On ˝ days students will have a mini cooking/baking class.  We will be cooking, baking, and decorating….from pizzas to cakes! A head count for this class is necessary. A small fee of $2.00 per session will be charged to help defray costs of ingredients. 2PM on 1/2days.
