game against St. Gregory. The team went on to beat St. Greg’s 19-15. Leading
scorers for St. James: Annamae-10pts, Katie – 3pts, Heidi-2pts, Maddie W-2pts
and Carlyle-2pts. Heidi set the tone on defense blocking shots, she finished
with 12 altogether. Each member contributed to a total team effort. Once
again, Congratulations to our three 8th graders, we wish you all the best in

Sisters of St. Joseph Need Your Help!
As you all know, the Sisters of
St. Joseph have been a part of our school's tradition for almost 100
years! When the Sisters heard about
our "All You Need Is Love" dinner/dance, some expressed an interest
in coming. The $60 ticket price is too
much for them. Sr. Diane and Sr.
Christy suggested we sell tickets to the Sisters for the actual cost of the evening-$30. I would like to go one step further and
offer the parents and friends of St.
James School
the opportunity to "Sponsor a Sister". For $30, a Sister of St. Joseph can join us
for a great evening. I hear some of
the Sisters are really excited about the dance portion of the the
dinner/dance! Please support this
great group of people with your generosity.
Thank you. If we receive
donations greater than the number of Sisters that can join us, we will use
the funds to sponsor our teachers.
Donations for the
Sisters should be directed to Kelly Haluszczak. Checks payable to St. James School.
50/50 Raffle
Last week in the Wednesday folder, your family
received a packet of six 50/50 raffle tickets. We are asking each family to try to sell
them. If you are able to sell more,
just let us know. We will get additional tickets to you. If every family sells their share, then the
winner will receive over $3,000! Which
means the school will raise over $3,000!
So please sell your tickets and return the completed (sold) tickets
and check/money to Miss Marcy's office.
The winning ticket will be drawn the evening of the "All You Need
Is Love" dinner/dance. Winner
need not be present. Thank you. Any questions should be directed to Joann
Matten at 412-859-1281 or jmatten@comcast.net

Girls
JV Wins a Thriller
On Saturday,
January 23rd the girls JV basketball team needed an overtime period
to defeat Divine Mercy 16 to 14. After falling behind 4-0 in the first
quarter the Cougars clawed their way back into the game and went to the
locker rooms at halftime trailing 5-4. St. James started hot in the third
quarter and jumped out to a 9-6 lead, but Divine Mercy was not ready to
concede as they outscored the Cougars 8-5 in the final quarter to tie the
game at the end of regulation. In overtime Emma Cullo scored the only basket
of the period while the Cougars tenacious defense kept Divine Mercy off the
board to secure the win. The Cougars were let by Emma Cullo’s season high 11
points. Lauren Padalino and Aesling Mcullough also scored for the Cougars.
This was a well-deserved win for the girls as they have played extremely hard
all season.
