Crop Hunger Walk
On April 18th,
St. James Church will gather with our neighbor Churches to walk from Osborne School in Sewickley to the Ambridge
Area Food bank, approx. 5 miles. We will walk to draw attention and support
for the hungry in our community and abroad. This event is organized by the
ecumenical group, Church World Service and is one of the oldest “walk”
fundraisers in the Nation. Please visit the Crop Walk at www.cropwalk.org to find more information about this
important cause.
25% of the
money that we raise through sponsors for each of the walkers will go directly
to 2 local food banks. The balance goes to international organizations which
help fight hunger. Catholic Relief Services is one of the many organizations
that benefits from the Crop Walk Funds!
With both the
earthquakes in Haiti and Chile, the
need is great this year. Please consider walking with us and raising money
and awareness for this worthy project. Won’t you join us on April 18 at 1:30?
Please contact
the rectory to sign up and receive the sponsor form or Patty Peilert at 412-269-9635 for ppeilert@yahoo.com details.

The Big Dance
The St.
James Dads and Daughters Dance rocked the gym Saturday night, and the place
was jumping with more than a hundred beautiful girls and their handsome
dates. Music filled the night as the DJ spun tunes that crossed generations.
We did the Twist, the Limbo, the Chicken Dance, the Stroll, the Cupid
Shuffle, and the Cha Cha Slide. The Dads taught
their daughters how to disco to the Bee Gee’s Stayin’
Alive. The daughters grabbed the microphone and serenaded their Dads by
singing Taylor’s
Swift’s “Love Story” word for word. There was a dance contest (the daughters
voted Mr. Garrison the winner of the Dads, probably just to get him to stop
dancing). The Dads voted ALL the girls as winners as they strutted
their stuff like nobody’s business.
The action wasn’t always fast and furious.
Time stood still as Dads danced with their little girls for several slow
songs that made the night unforgettable. The dresses were fancy and fun.
Several Dads donned tuxedoes for the affair. Lucky winners walked away with
incredible candy tower centerpieces made by Gina Cuccaro. Everyone went home with a keepsake photo to
remember their special evening.
The St. James Athletic Association would like
to thank everyone who helped make this a great night. Without the hard work
of these people, the dance would not have been as much fun as it was: Father
Dan, Sister Diane, Sister Christy, The Cuccaros,
The McNelises, The Gregorys,
The Stasas, The Meurers,
The McAllisters, The Gevaudens,
The Nicolauses, The Garrisons, Mary Ceccarelli,
Miss Marcy, Karin Masterani, Karen Conroy, Barbara
Cox (St. Mary’s), and Ray Smith (DJ).

St. James Celebrates Pi Day
There has been lots
of "pie" talk in recent days at St. James and it can all be
attributed to Pi itself
or 3.14 (the circumference of a circle to its diameter). Pi Day is celebrated
annually on March 14th (at 1:59 PM). We
celebrated Pi Day on Friday, giving each student a slice of pie to enjoy,
following their lunch, in honor of this occasion. There has been a National Resolution passed
by the House of Representatives to commemorate Pi Day in schools and to
reinforce science and mathematics for all students to better prepare our
children for the future and to compete in the 21st Century. St. James received 31 donated pies from
local bakers to assist in the celebration.
We are so grateful for our neighborhood bakeries and their dedication
and support of St. James. Thank you to
The Ultimate Pastry, Safran's, Giant Eagle, Eat'n'Park, Lincoln Bakery and Kuhn's Market for their
delicious pies! The students were able
to have fun while appreciating the power of Pi!
