Fish Fry - Baked Goods Request

The proceeds from our Parish Fish Frys support the school. There are many volunteers who make this Lenten Community event possible. We’d appreciate your help once again. Please drop off your baked goods in the cafeteria on Friday.

Dads and Daughters Dance 3/13 7 -9pm

Tickets $15 for Dad and Daughter, $5 for each additional daughter. Send payment in a sealed envelope to school with your child marked “Dad/Daughter Dance.” Your tickets will be sent home with your child the following day.

National Hip Hop Dance Competition

Bradley Sullivan, 7th grade, competed in the Arnold Sports National Hip Hop Dance Competition this past weekend in Columbus Ohio. Bradley and his teammates, the "Coyotes", captured first place in the National Junior Hip Hop Dance Champions. The competition was sponsored by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Congratulations, Bradley!

Girls Rule –

A recent issue of the Cougar Call highlighted the basketball skills of our 3rd and 4th graders, but you might be surprised to find just how hard the JJV girls play. Led by our “fantastic fourth graders” – Mia Cuccaro, Ashley Kovacs, Victoria Michalenko and Elizabeth Padalino, our JJV basketball team has had an exciting year. Our “terrific third graders” never give up and include Victoria Gevaudan, Mary Rose McNelis and Sanah Handu. Perhaps the biggest surprise of the year is the progress of our “super second graders” a class of 9 that includes Peyton Corsetti, Ella Cuccaro, Katie Donohue, Lauren Guy, Haley Hamilton, Marianna Haught, Sarah McCallister, Helen Rothfus, and Julia Susie. If you have seen these girls play then you know that the future of St. James basketball is bright!

The girls finished the year by playing in St. Bonaventure’s JJV tournament where they bounced back from a first round loss to St. Alphonsus to beat Holy Spirit in the consolation game. It was a great way to end a great season!

JJV Boys Basketball - A Great Season
The JJV Boys Basketball season came to an end this weekend with the JJV boys participating in the 10^th Annual Sts. Peter and Paul Boys and Girls Tournament in Beaver, PA to conclude their winning season. The tournament was broken down into (3) divisions with the 4^th Grade Boys playing in the “3^rd/4^th Grade Boys Division” and the 3^rd Grade Boys playing in the “3^rd Grade Division”. All the boys played with heart, determination and poise.

4^th Grade Boys Tournament Summary
On Friday, 4^th Grade kicked off the tournament vs. St. Vitus. They quickly jumped out to a 10-1 lead with a fast break offense that was pure perfection. In the second half, St. Vitus pulled ahead by 1 point, but our boys found their fast break again, finishing with a 22 – 18 victory.

On Saturday against St. Gregory, the boys got their points with outside shooting. Despite a very aggressive defensive effort, the boys lost by just 1 point, 18 – 17.

Our boys did win their division’s foul shooting competition by making 58% of their shots. Congratulations!

Everyone on the team made a contribution. Billy Garrison and Jordan Rheingrover were outstanding as point guards, even making a 3-point shot each. Ian Rogers was big in the middle and scored with offensive rebounds. Guards Michael DeFilippo, Harrison MacDonald, and Declan Urffer played super aggressive defense. Forwards Anthony Guy, Kevin Michael Meurer and Gavin Ward snagged key rebounds throughout the game.

It was a great season by a very close knit team who played together, won together, and laughed together. Now it’s on to Soccer!

3^rd Grade Boys Tournament Summary

3rd GRADE BOYS DIVISION CHAMPIONS

On Saturday, 3^rd Grade kicked off the tournament in the “3^rd Grade Division” playing against the tournament host Sts. Peter and Paul. The boys were unstoppable from the tipoff. Unselfishness and teamwork were the key components throughout the game leading to a 16-2 victory! All the boys participated and gave it their all.

On Sunday, 3^rd Grade played in the Championship Game vs. an unknown Providence Heights Alpha team. Not having played this team during the regular season, 3^rd Grade came ready to play knowing that they may have their hands full. Once again, playing with exceptional teamwork, the boys held strong. The score difference was never more than 2 points until the last 4 minutes of the game, where the score was 9-8 in favor of Providence Heights Alpha. What a “BARN BURNER”! During the last 4 minutes of the game, the boys made 3 key foul shots and a jump shot to make the score 13-9. The defense played strong and never looked back holding the score to 13-9 winning the game and taking 1^st place!

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 3^RD GRADE TEAM FOR TAKING 1^ST PLACE IN THE TOURNAMENT!

Like the 4^th Grade, the 3^rd Grade won their division’s foul shooting competition as well, shooting 44.4%, which ended up being the key to the 3^rd Grade boys’ championship win. Overall the 3^rd grade boys were 5 for 9 from the free throw line during the Championship Game, which ultimately won the game.

Final Note

Our goal as coaches was to instill teamwork, unselfishness and sportsmanship into the boys. Throughout the entire season all the boys made us proud!
